School/ homework
Mrs. Jones,
So earlier you had said that out essays for "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" were due on monday. Since we have no school today, and a 2 hour delay tomorrow, does that still stand?? I'm trying to determine how much homework I need to do while on vacation. And are you guys writing the introduction and closing paragraphs in class or individually?

So I was reading The Scarlet Letter, and i got through chapter 5 and answered the questions. Then I was reading over the questions for chapter 6. And they are all the same questions!! WHY?! Was that a typo? Or could you just not think of anymore questions to ask? Let me know, Cause I be confused. Thanks!!
MONSOON
ok, so you know its been raining hard at laney when the track by the football field is flooded and has a steady current going round and round!!! I think it's safe to say that everyone got soaked at some point today, but i bet nobodys car door is mentally handicapped!!! I get to my jeep and open the door and somehow my inner door handle managed to explode and it was hanging off. Ha and in order to get out of my car i have to roll the window down and reach outside the car!!! But none the less im still hapy with my jeep cuz it gets me from A to Z
Today's Essay
I'm sick again so I checked out early today. Can anyone explain the essay that was assigned today to me and when it's due, etc.?

Scarlet Letter Quiz
For the quiz on the first four chapters of The Scarlet Letter, are the questions going to be based on the questions included in the study guide, or are there going to be questions that are not on the study guide as well?
So there are very few interesting classic Books
Ms. jones, I really hate classic's, but i know there mandotory for this class. I was talking to someone about books that were older that may be more interesting for the class to read, at some other point through the semester or for Ap. Both of us believe that the Out Siders is a really good book. It's just an idea, it may be below some of our literary levels but maybe...

Sorry I've been out this week...
I fully intended on going to school today, but I felt terrible and just couldn't get out of bed. I've been having intense pains in the right side of my abdomen since Tuesday. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and she thought it was my gall bladder and might have gall stones so she scheduled me an ultrasound to check it out Thursday morning. We got the results this morning and they found no sign of gall stones, but found that I might have something called fatty liver (wikipedia never makes things easy, so I'm not quite sure what it is). She's gonna have me get a CAT Scan on Monday morning to check out my abdomen and see if we can find the problem. I dodged a surgery for removal of my gall bladder, but we still have no idea whats wrong with me. =/
But did I miss anything incredibly important this week?

School Spirit
ok, so i know today in class we were talking a lot about school spirit and i got to thinkin. Why does no one have any!!!?!?!?!??! it should be a crime, especially if you base your spirit on how good the football team is or isnt, there should be spirit win lose or draw!!!
Anyways, i think it'd be funny as crap if the football team cheered for the powderpuff girls!! and yes, we do know how to execute a "pyramid." It was just one of those things we ended up doing with our free time. Weird right?

Here ya go Ms. Jones.
Well yeah, I did hear what you were saying today about no one being on the blog and yeah, I know. I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been checking everyday but nobody's really posting anything that I have felt the need to comment on so I just haven't been posting/commenting. I do have some good news though. I was just talking with one of the parentals and she said that I might not be moving for another 2-3 weeks, so yeah, thought I'd share. Oh and Ms. Jones, you still haven't given me my progress report so I'm completely oblivious to what my current grade is. I don't think its anything to be real proud of though. Unless, of course, those letters counted a bunch because I know mine was a monster (not better than Devin's though). Oh and I've talked to a few people today, what's this crap about my current grades from this semester transferring over? I swear that someone told me that it doesn't, if so then I'm in some trouble.

Dress Code
Sorry I wasn't in class Friday, I was stuck in the deans office because my shirt was SUPER offensive (plain green shirt), and I got a referral. I love how this school cares more about the dress code than actual academics. So what did I miss Friday?

Turtles can fish!
I just got back from fishing with captain Stephen and his little brother James Allen, and caught 2 fish. One was a bluefish and it was chill. The other was a 28" red drum, at night, which was an amazing fight and it JUMPED! Red drum are known for never ever ever jumping and thr one I caught today was a once in a lifetime drum. Stephen caught a sting ray and his brother caught 2 bluefish and a flounder. So Ms. Jones please, please, accept my amazingness.
So today BOTH classes went independently well. Different things in both classes, but still I imagine that those observers were in for a treat. They saw everything from essay writing (kind of) to vocabulary quizzing. Too bad they missed joke time.
So what's up this weekend? Anyone going to the Northeast Branch Library Sale?

Dolphins!
So last year in AP Environmental Science we watched this movie The Cove. It's about the dolphin killings in Japan. I watched whale wars before and was aware of this problem in Japan. Japanese fisherman just have no conscience! It kills me to see these beautiful animals being slaughtered for no reason. I could go on and on about the whaling, but I won't. I am really trying to take part and help out as much as I can. There is this petition addressed to President Obama and the Japanese Ambassabor to address this issue. Many people in Japan don't know about this because the media is hiding it from them. So if you can please sign the petition that would be great! Just go to the link posted on here.

Random question...
Would being a belle in the Azalea Festival be counted as volunteer work??
I ask not only because I am interested in being a belle, but because we were talking about how you have to have volunteering on college apps.

I realize that both 3rd and 4th blocks think that we spend most of our time gabbing. Realize I've been doing this nine years. I have a plan. I know what I am doing. Trust me. We have already covered one literary period, written a myth, presented it, written a letter, reviewed parts of speech up to verbs, and spoken about colleges (in 4th block). We read (almost) a narrative from Bradford and learned 20 new vocabulary words. We aren't sitting on our butts.
Remember your vocabulary quiz tomorrow. New words defined on Monday.
Tomorrow we will read some PURITAN POETRY. Did you even know it existed?
Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672) is one of the most important figures in the history of American Literature. She is considered by many to be the first American poet, and her first collection of poems, "The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America, By a Gentlewoman of Those Parts", doesn't contain any of her best known poems, it was the first book written by a woman to be published in the United States. Mrs. Bradstreet's work also serves as a document of the struggles of a Puritan wife against the hardships of New England colonial life, and in some way is a testament to plight of the women of the age. Anne's life was a constant struggle, from her difficult adaptation to the rigors of the new land, to her constant battle with illness.
It is clear to see that Anne's faith was exemplary, and so was her love for children and her husband, Governor Simon Bradstreet. Anne's poems were written mainly during the long periods of loneliness while Simon was away on political errands. Anne, who was a well educated woman, also spent much time with her children, reading to them and teaching them as her father had taught her when she was young. While it is rather easy for us to view Puritan ideology in a bad light because of it's attitude towards women and strict moral code, her indifference to material wealth, her humility and her spirituality, regardless of religion, made her into a positive, inspirational role model for any of us.
Another one of Anne's most important qualities was her strong intuition, although only subtly hinted at in her work, probably for fear of reprisal from the deeply religious Puritan community, one cannot help but feel her constant fascination with the human mind, and spirit, and inner guidance.
Her style is deceptively simple, yet speaks of a woman of high intelligence and ideals who was very much in love, and had unconditional faith. While it was difficult for women to air their views in the 17th Century, Anne Bradstreet did so with ease, as her rich vocabulary and polyvalent knowledge brought a lyrical, yet logical quality to her work which made it pleasant for anyone to read.

they pulled me out of 4th period to go to Ms. Vaughn's office . at first I thought they had accidently called me to get a schedule change or something , but she took me to talk to the Herff Jones reps. & they told me I won the raffle ! my mom didn't answer when I first called her , but when she finally did she started off yelling at me for something random I did at home this morning so I had to quickly tell her the good news to get that load quickly put away lol. but mom & dad were really happy they didn't have to spend $300 on a ring .. lol .
Wedding on Tuesday.
Okay first off I'm really excited about mine and Devin's wedding on Tuesday, its gonna be great. I really think we should have a ceremony for it. Perhaps we could bring Mr. Motley in to marry us because I think he married Mrs. Metz or something and that would be so official. Also, Hali, what is the cake gonna look like exactly?

So if my letter is barely a two pages and only the signature part goes over to the second page, how should i edit that?
