Ms. Jones!!

Ms. Jones, Why do you keep having us read books with depressing endings?? I just finished "Of Mice and Men" and the ending was horrible and made me want to cry. Can we read a happy book next, Please?!

  1. Well, the problem with "happy" books is....they don't exist. Well they do, but only for children. Adult books (you know what I mean) discuss adult lives which generally contain sad or traumatic things. People don't sit down one day and think "Gee, my life is spectacular, I should write a book" and if they did, no one would read it. But they do think "Gee, whatever just happened really sucked, I should share" and other people do want to read about how everyone's life has sucky times, too. Makes us feel normal. This book is especially sad though. But for once, I feel like an author didn't spare words. 100 pages was all he needed. Any more you would be bored and any less you wouldn't bond with the characters and feel the right emotions at the end.
