Vocab 12 and 13

Vocab week 12
1. Diatribe - a forcefull and bitter verbal attack against someone or something
2. Esthetics - concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty
3. Fortify - strengthen (a place) with defensive works so as to protect it against attack
4. Interminable -endless (often used as a hyperbole)
5. Inured - to accustom (someone) to something, especially something unpleasant
6. Mordant - (especially of humor) having or showing a sharp or critical quality; biting
7. Pragmatic - dealing with things sensibly and realistically
8. Specious - superficially plausible, but actually wrong
9. Surreptitiously - kept secret, especially because it would not be approved of
10. Vernacular - The language or dialect spoken by the ordinary people in a particular country or region

Vocab week 13
1. Ascertain - find (something) out for certain; make sure of
2. Cogent - (of an argument or case) clear, logical, and convincing
3. Dissuade - persuade (someone) not to take a particular course of action
4. Exorbitant - (of a price or amount charged) unreasonably high
5. Furtive - attempting to avoid notice or attention; secretive
6. Impervious - incapable of being influenced, persuaded, or affected
7. Impute - represent (something) as being done, caused, or possessed by someone; attribute
8. Nebulous - (of a concept or idea) unclear, vague, or ill-defined
9. Obstreperous - noisy and difficult to control
10. Sinuous haveing many curves and turns; lithe and supple
