Vocab. 14 and 15

I'm not sure if we're aving a test this week or not but I might as well post the vocab.
Vocab 14
1. Adept - very skilled or proficient at something
2. Assiduous - showing great care perseverance
3. Behoove - a responsibility for someone to do something (like homework or a school project)
4. chagrin - distress or embarassment at having failed or been humiliated
5. Discern - percieve or recognize (something)
6. Ennui - a feeling of listlessness and general dissatisfaction resulting from a lack of activity or excitement, i.e. how you feel at school (minus Tonya's class)
7. Errant - erring (which means doing something you shouldn't) or straying from the proper course or standards
8. Hedonist - a person whose life is devoted to the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification
9. Lascivious - (of a person, manner, or gesture) feeling or revealing an overt and often offensive sexual desire
10. Usurped - take (a position of power or importance) illegally or by force

Vocab 15
1. Contrive - to plan with ingenuity
2. Dissipation - scattering or dispersion
3. Emasculate - make (a person, idea, or piece of legislation) weaker or less effective
4. Indifference - lack of interest, concern, or sympathy
5. Irrevocable - not able to be changed, reversed, or recovered; final
6. Metaphysical - highly abstract, subtle, or abstruse
7. Peripheral - of, relating to, or situated on the edge or periphery of something
8. Soliloquy - an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, esp. by a character in a play
9. Stealthy - behaving, done, or made in a cautious and surreptitious manner, so as not to be seen or heard
10. Unsullied - not spoiled or made impure
